Telling hapless accident victims, who have lost everything in fires, building crashes or even acid attacks to pay for medicines has become a norm with civic hospitals.
Recently, victims of the Mazgaon crash were told to fork out money for blood tests at Nair Hospital as emergency blood tests are available only in the day time.
At KEM, youngsters with severe injuries after Gokulashtami was told to buy medicines with their own money. Observers say this only shows the insensitivity of the doctors and the ineptitude of the civic authorities.
