Thane: A 32-year-old man wanted in a dacoity case from Uttar Pradesh was arrested by the Thane crime branch along with Uttar Pradesh, STF on Saturday. The Uttar Pradesh police had announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for his arrest.
The police said the arrested accused is identified as Umar alias Umar Ahmed Atikur Rahman alias Abdul Rehman Shaikh (32) who is a resident of Fariha Thana, Nizamabad, District Azamghad, Uttar Pradesh.
There were two cases against Shaikh and the first was registered at Phulpur police station for dacoity under section 395, 412 and 325 of the Indian penal code and under section 174 (A) of the IPC. "Shaikh along with other accused committed a dacoity and looted Rs 12 lakhs. The incident was reported in 2019 and since then he was wanted in the case," said Krishna Kokani, senior police inspector, Thane crime branch unit 1.
With Shaikh being wanted for a year, the deputy inspector general of police, Azamgarh had announced Rs 50,000 reward for his arrest. The Uttar Pradesh state task force received information about the accused being staying in Thane.
Accordingly, a team of UP, STF reached Thane and in writing sought help from the Thane crime branch. Then Laxmikant Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Thane crime branch instructed Unit 1 of the crime branch to help the team. Praful Jadhav, assistant police inspector, of the unit along with the staff was assigned the job.
Shailendra Kumar, police sub-inspector and staff of STF came for the arrest of the accused. "We received information about the accused coming to Thane railway station. Accordingly, we laid a trap outside Thane railway station near the auto-rickshaw stand. As soon as he reached the spot we nabbed him and handed him over to the STF team. He was arrested on Saturday and after taking transit remand the STF team took him to UP,".
