Thane: Scrap dealer arrested for purchasing stolen ornaments and idols from three minors

Thane: The Vitthalwadi police have arrested a 60-year-old scrap dealer and detained three minors aged 8 to 12-years for stealing gold and silver ornaments and idols worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from a temple in Ulhasnagar. The police found the minors had sold the ornaments to the scrap dealer. The accused scrap dealer was arrested and minors were sent to an observation home in Bhiwandi.

The police said the complainant is identified as Deepak Rupchandra Shadija 42, who is a caretaker for the Jai Ambe Mata Mandir at Kurla camp in Ulhasnagar number 4. Shadija claims the theft took place on June 9, in-between 12 pm to 6:15 pm. The thief entered from the back gate of the mandir and took away the gold and silver ornaments including aluminium and metal idols totalling worth Rs 1.25 lakhs.

Kanaiya Thorat, senior police inspector, Vitthalwadi police station said a case was registered under section 380, 411 and 34 of the Indian penal code. "We registered a case and started the investigation by scanning the CCTV footage and taking help from local informers," added Thorat.
