Posing as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers, two bike borne robbers looted gold ornaments worth Rs 1.05 lakhs of a 72-year-old senior citizen. The Badlapur west police have registered a cheating case and are trying to trace the accused with the help of CCTV footage.

The police said the complainant is identified as Sunil Murlidhar Muranjan 72, a resident of Belavali, Badlapur. Muranjan claims the incident took place on June 8, Tuesday at 9:45 am near auto-rickshaw stand at Belavali in Badlapur. "Sunil went to a hotel for breakfast and was heading towards the auto-rickshaw stand to get an auto. He wanted to reach the medical shop to purchase medicines. When suddenly a man on black motorcycle reached to stop him," he said.

"The accused claims that he had been shouting many times pretending to be CBI officers and asked him to show what was in the senior citizen's pocket. Scared, Sunil gave him mobile phone and purse and later also the gold chain and gold ring. Meanwhile, another accused too reached the spot who too posed as a CBI officer and with hand tricks took away the ornaments and fled from the place," said a police officer.

The two thieves took away a gold chain of 25 gram worth Rs 75,000 and a 12 grams gold ring worth Rs 30,000 calculating a total of Rs 1.05 lakhs. "We have registered a case and have started the investigation," said a police officer.

On June 9, Wednesday the Badlapur police registered a case under section 420, 170, 171 and 34 of the Indian penal code.
