The Manpada Police have booked an unknown individual for allegedly stealing a god idol from agricultural land in Manpada, Dombivli. The incident came to light when villagers went to the spot to offer prayers. Outrage followed as the locals discovered that the idol was missing.

The theft occurred in Khoni village, located in survey number 62/1, measuring 20 gunthas, in Dombivli, between April 6 at 5 PM and April 7 at 8 PM. The stolen items included the Vaitaleshwar Dev idol, made of stone, and two table lamps (samai). A case was filed by Motiram Jumare (62), a resident of Khoni village.

The villagers approached the local police station and lodged an FIR against the unknown accused. Manpada Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage from the nearby locality. A case has been registered under Section 303(2) (Punishment for theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Motiram Jumare told FPJ that the stolen god idol, over 100 years old, was situated on agricultural land. “As soon as the villagers heard about the theft, they rushed to the site. My brother went there to offer a prayer on Monday evening and discovered that the idol and the table lamps were missing,” he said. He expressed deep disappointment, questioning how anyone could stoop so low as to steal a god idol.
