Thane: The Thane Anti-Extortion Cell have arrested the ex-corporator of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) allegedly for opening fire at a businessman and demanding extortion. One bullet was fired, but the victim escaped unhurted, said police.
According to police, the accused, Mahesh Wagh, was a former corporator of Shiv Sena in TMC. The victim, Manish Gulve (44), a resident of Panchpakhadi, runs the fabrication business in Thane. The incident took place near Nitin junction, Thane, on Thursday night when the accused met the victim in the Nitin junction area.
The police said the accused told the victim if he did not give him the remaining Rs4,00,000, then he would have to face the consequences, as he carries a licenced gun, leading to a heated argument. In a fit of rage, the accused fired a shot, but the victim escaped unhurt.
Gulve approached the Naupada police and filed a complaint against Wagh. Talking to FPJ, Vikas Godke, inspector, Thane Anti-Extortion dept, said, “The accused was arrested on Friday and produced in court, which sent him to police custody till Monday.”
The cop said Gulve had property feuds with stepmother and brother. The matter was pending in a court. The accused told him he would help him settle the case in his favour. He took Rs10,00,000 from Gulve. The accused did not do anything, but took Rs10,30,000 lakh. He demanded Rs,4,00,000 again. When the victim refused, he got angry and fired at him.
