Thane: Accomplished with all modern facilities a new electric bus will soon be running on Thane-Mumbai road. Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has inaugurated this ultra modern bus on Tuesday. The bus has a special facility of Wi-Fi, AC, mobile charging and also easily accessible for the disabled people. To begin with, there will be one bus initially and later 100 electric buses will arrive into Thane transport services.
The bus that has a special facility for disabled is a welcoming feature in it. The bus has two doors and through one door, a wheelchair can enter in the bus. The person will be seated in the specially designed chair, informed the civic officer.
“In this electric bus a special facility is provided, along with AC, Wi-Fi, mobile charger, there will be ramp for disabled people. The wheelchair bound person can enter in this bus with ease. The bus will tilt down a little to make the wheelchair enter in the bus. It is based on the many bus services provided in the European countries which is also pollution free,” said Sunil Pote, Deputy city engineer (Electrical).
The service will start on the Public-private partnership (PPP) basis and the charging stations have already been started at Anandnagar bus depot of the TMT. It has claimed to be the first corporation to start the project of such bus on PPP basis.
Ten buses of the first phase will arrive till December and the corporation will not have to spend a single penny as the project is implemented on the basis of PPP through an agency.
The bus model is based on the bus services of the European countries and commuters will be charged with the same tariff as per the AC bus. The agency will provide all these facilities and at the end portion of the bus there can be a facility of laptop, printer as well. A driver, conductor, charging operator will also be appointed buy the agency. The civic body will just be providing space for the bus. The tickets will be charged according the RTO rules, the official informed.
The 32-seater bus is completely powered by battery and will run for nearly 220 kms on a single charge. The charging points will be given on the bus stops. The vehicle will not be noisy while travelling on road without any emissions, claimed officials.
TMT service has 313 buses in its service right now, but very few are in good condition and are running on the road. The new electric powered bus will provide a relief to commuters , going by the TMT claims.
The eco-friendly bus will start its service till Borivali soon, the official informed. Along with this bus four electric two-wheelers were also launched. The two-wheelers will be used by corporation employees for official work. Soon there will be more two- wheelers available and the use of rickshaw will be reduced in the corporation. To make the city pollution free, the corporation has initiated the project.
