Thane: Marathi television actor Mayuresh Kotkar who was arrested for allegedly posting objectionable statements on social media against state minister Eknath Shinde was given bail on Wednesday.
The Shringar Police in Thane had arrested the artist on Monday after a complaint was filed by Shiv Sena workers followed by Kotkar's objectionable post.
The police said Kotkar has posted regarding a controversial proposal for the naming of the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. Kotkar, who has acted in a number of Marathi serials, had recently participated in the Agari community's campaign to name the upcoming Navi Mumbai international airport as DB Patil Airport by forming a human chain on the streets.
But in all that process he used defamatory words for Minister Eknath Shinde and his parents.
However, Shiv Sena corporator Yogesh Jankar filed a complaint against the actor and claimed that using defamatory words for any person or family is not accepted.
A case was registered against Kotkar under section 505 (statement conducting to public mischief) of the Indian penal code. He was arrested on Monday and was granted bail on Wednesday.
