Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested a man for allegedly raping a minor teen inside a secluded room in Ulhasnagar. The arrest was made early on Sunday. The accused allegedly followed the minor and when she called for help from her friends, they too were threatened with dire consequences.

According to police, the incident took place on Friday night when the accused, identified as Shrikant Gaikwad (30), a labourer, met the victim, a teenager, when she was with two of her friends, and later tracked her down, forcibly removing her scarf. Gaikwad then attacked her on her head with a hammer, and when she called for help, he also threatened her friends.

Police said that Gaikwad then allegedly took her to a shanty and raped her. Grabbing an opportunity, when the victim tried to flee from the spot, he caught hold of her and beat her up. In the wee hours of Saturday, the teen managed to escape and reached home. After a police complaint was lodged, a special team was formed and Gaikwad was apprehended from Shri Ram chowk area in Ulhasnagar on Saturday night.

Gaikwad was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for rape, kidnapping among other charges. The accused was produced before a local magistrate court, which remanded him in police custody till Tuesday.
