Thane: Leopard spotted at Korum mall, search operation underway as CCTV footage goes viral

In a shocking incident, a leopard was spotted leaving the Korum Mall in Thane on Wednesday morning. The CCTV installed toward the exit gate of the parking area of the mall caught the leopard’s movement.

An official from Vartak Nagar Police station told Mumbai Mirror, “A leopard was spotted at around 5:30 am. The police, fire, and forest officials are at the spot and the search operation is underway.”

As per reports, the leopard was last seen moving towards the Vasant Vihar residential society from the mall premises. However, it is unclear if the leopard has left the vicinity. The mall has been shut for the day to avoid the further untoward incident. According to Mumbai Mirror, it believed that the leopard has entered the premises of Satkar Residency hotel which is adjacent to Cadbury company compound near Samata Nagar.

The big cat was first seen in the parking area of Korum Mall by some persons following which they alerted police and forest officials, Thane civic body’s regional disaster management cell chief Santosh Kadam told PTI. The police and forest officials rushed to the mall, located in Samata Nagar, and after a hectic search for around two to three hours, they concluded that the feline must have escaped from the premises by jumping off its compound wall, Kadam added.
