On Monday, a 24-year-old cab driver was arrested by the Bhiwandi police for allegedly biting and assaulting a passenger. According to Indian Express, the accused has been identified as Ajay Upadhyaya (24) a resident of Ambernath and works for a car service provider. The incident took place on Sunday morning when Ajay Upadhyaya picked up Jitendra Hegade and his wife Savita from Bhiwandi. Upadhyaya was scheduled to drop them off at Kalyan. Jitendra told the cops that, as the driver was speeding, he told him to slow down.

But even after that, Upadhyaya continued to speed and eventually, the car got stuck in a ditch near Ranjnoli village. Later, again Hegade asked Upadhyaya to drive more carefully, but he forced Hegade and his wife out of the vehicle and beat him up. After this, the couple alerted the cops on Dial 100. A police officer told the leading daily, “When we reached the spot, we realised that the driver had allegedly tried to drop them off in the middle of the road. The driver had also beaten up Jitendra Hegade and had bitten him on his hand.” The police arrested Upadhyaya on charges of assault, rash driving, and intimidation.
