Thane: A 37-year-old man was killed after his car drove into a pit dug by the Thane Municipal Corporation for a drainage line at Ghodbunder Road on Wednesday morning. The deceased, Sachin Sunil Kakodkar, 37, who resides with his wife and son at Chitra Building in Akash Complex, Thane, was a pathology technician.
The police said the incident took place at Mullabaugh near the bus depot, when he was driving home to Ghodbunder Road in his Maruti Suzuki Ertiga from Yeoor in the evening. TMC had given the contract for the drainage work to a private contractor.
The Chitalsar Manpada police have registered an accidental death report (ADR). The police said that a liquor bottle was found in his car but the post-mortem report revealed that he was not drunk while driving. Santosh Kadam, chief officer of the regional disaster management cell, said, “We received a call at around 9 am, after which we rushed to the spot along with an emergency tender and one rescue vehicle.”
The police said Sachin was stuck in the car and pulled out with the help of a rescue vehicle and taken to Baithni Hospital, where he was declared dead during treatment. Kailash Pawar, civil surgeon from the Thane hospital, said, “The deceased had suffered only shoulder injuries. The cause of death is cardiac arrest. Maybe, he got stressed when the car fell in the pit and he could not extricate himself.”
