New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the poll panel to watch the PM Narendra Modi biopic starring Vivek Oberoi by Friday, so as to review its decision to put the movie on hold during the elections. The Bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi sought EC’s response in a sealed cover and fixed the next hearing on April 22. The court said the EC should not decide on the issue purely on the basis of a trailer it had seen; but it better watch the entire film before taking a final call.

The filmmakers had moved the Apex Court against the Election Commission order on April 10 staying release of the Hindi movie until after the ongoing elections. They contended that the Election Commission had banned the movie even without watching it. Only last week, the film had got clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification with an ”unrestricted” (U) certificate, but the EC banned its release just hours before its premier on April 11.
