Mumbai : The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) saw close to 12,000 suggestions and objections against the draft development plan (DP) on Friday, the last day for these submissions. These complaints flooding the DP office have stretched the administration’s resources almost to breaking point. On official source said “One person alone came up with 4,000 suggestions that he has collected from his locality.”
Pankaj Joshi, Executive Director of Urban Design Research Institute (UDRI) said “this is a very good sign. Crowd sourcing is one of the most efficient methods of Urban planning.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had scrapped the draft DP and asked the BMC to rectify its mistakes in the next 4 months. Joshi said “Since the time frame is really small, following up on these suggestions will be a good start for the BMC. In fact, it should still extend the deadline so that more suggestions can come in.”
