Mumbai: As part of its road mobility plan, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is carrying out a study through an appointed LEA Associate, South Asia Pvt Ltd (LASA), agency to improve the quality of roads and traffic in the city. Andheri was selected as the pilot project for the study and the agency filed a Corridor Concept Plan report on that along with suggestions.
The six corridors which were studied in detail were the Caesar Road, JP Road, Bharwadi Lane, Dawood Baug Lane, SV Road and MV Road. As a pilot project, the railway station is a pivotal point, besides issues of poor pedestrian facilities, excess traffic congestion and hawker encroachment. Additional municipal commissioner SVR Srinivas said “The implementation of the road mobility plan is expected to start in six months. This study is a part of that process.” Senior civic officials are examining the feasibility of implementing solutions, the cost of which has been estimated at Rs 27.74 crore.
