Palghar : Students from a Vasai school teamed up and visited housing societies near their school premises and promoted eco-friendly Ganeshotsav in a door-to-door awareness drive.
Stanny Pinto, chairman of Stann Knowledge Campus in Evershine City, Vasai East, suggested the idea while interacting with students. Students spoke about loud music, traffic jams, processions, etc. when they were asked about the first thing that came across their mind about Ganesh festival.
The school made groups of 10 to 12 students each, which was lead by a teacher. They visited all the flats in housing societies around the school to promote an eco-friendly festival and pollution-free immersions.
To practise what is being preached, SKC also celebrated a day-and-a-half’s Ganeshotsav by using an idol made from Shadu, an eco-friendly material. Activities with parent participation were also organised to create more interaction between parents and the school management.
Pinto told FPJ: “We wanted the children, right from this tender age, to understand the importance of eco-friendly festivals. Also, activities like these initiate and increase communication between parents and school management.”
“Respect for all religions can be achieved only by practising it. Only then we understand the values of other religions. We want the children to respect nature in all possible ways and promote eco-friendly practices,” said Father Melwin D’silva, academic director of the school.
