Mumbai : After the left of the foldable stretchers from luggage compartment of local trains, they will now be placed underneath a passenger’s seat within the compartment. Central Railway will be soon conducting trials with these stretchers placed in third compartment as well as last coach of the train.
A pair of four stretchers will be placed in the rakes and trials of which is expected to be held in first week of October. General Manager of CR, Sunil Kumar Sood, said, “We are not only placing these new stretchers but will also be replacing those stolen from the luggage compartment. The trials were to be conducted Tuesday but have been delayed.”
Nine of the 14 foldable stretches placed in luggage compartment were stolen while trains were stabled in car shed. The railway officials will be placing the stretchers back in a bid to catch the culprits. Following the death of the 19-year-old Dhaval Lodhaya who could not reach hospital on time with no stretchers around, the CR has decided to have these foldable stretchers in the trains itself. However, official are skeptical that these stretchers will also be stolen as they are without any locks to make it easier for commuters to fetch them in emergency.
An official from CR said, “These stretchers will not cause any inconvenience to commuters despite being attached to the seats.”
