Mumbai : In order to check the spread of monsoon-related diseases, the BMC had issued caution notices to 2,741 under construction buildings in Mumbai last week and had instructing them to get rid of material likely to stagnate rainwater and become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The civic body has now sent stop work notices to 32 out of these 2,741 under-constructions buildings as they have failed to comply by the previous orders.
The builders will no longer be able to continue with the construction work, until they pay a fine to the civic body and comply by its safety norms.
The civic body had previously instructed builders to get rid of items like hollow tyres, debris, construction machinery and tools that allow water stagnation. The caution notice had also advised builders to arrange for alternate accommodation for labourers working at construction sites and provide them with mosquito nets.
