Mumbai: PM Modi on Sunday interacted with BJP booth karyakartas from Hatkanangale, Kolhapur, Madha, Satara and South Goa via video conferencing. He explained how the entire agriculture ecosystem is being strengthened to improve the income of the farmers. He spoke of the increased irrigation coverage in state, and steps taken for the entire sugar sector, which would benefit the sugarcane farmers in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
He lauded the spirit, honesty, hard work and commitment of the BJP karyakartas, whatever may have been the past electoral outcomes of the party in an area. He said the BJP karyakarta is not only fully committed to achieving the goals of the party through thick and thin, but also remains connected and aware of the views and concerns of the ordinary public. This helps grassroot issues reach the top level of the party so that they can be addressed.
The PM criticised the various opposition parties who have joined hands for a mahagathbandhan (grand alliance), with the sole objective of defeating the BJP in the upcoming election. He said while they have made an alliance with each other, the BJP has made an alliance with the 130 crore citizens. “It is ironical those parties that do not have an iota of democracy within themselves are now forming alliances to tell people about the state of democracy in the country,” he said.
He even mentioned how one leader had accidentally recalled the Bofors scandal in the mahagathbandhan rally in Kolkata on Saturday. Responding to criticisms about the timing of his government’s decision to provide 10% reservation in education and jobs for the economically-weaker sections of society as being politically-motivated, Modi said elections happen frequently in India; linking this decision with any election is illogical.
“If the decision had been implemented a few months ago, there would have been rumours the decision was taken before the assembly polls in five states and so on,” the PM explained. So, rather than politicising it, everybody should be supportive of such measures, he added.
