20,000 Structures In To Be Regularised As Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Is Scheduled To Go In For Elections Early Next Year

Mumbai : The State government announced a new scheme granting 4 FSI for redevelopment of Gaothan plots in Navi Mumbai under cluster redevelopment plan. The scheme would also pave way for regularisation of over 20,000 houses in the city, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the assembly here on Thursday.

“Government has acquired almost all of private land except Gaothans in the area. Project affected people have built illegal structures in this very Gaothan area. People say this was inevitable as the government or the CIDCO did not come up with any Gaothan extension scheme and have been demanding regularisation of their houses for a long time,” he said while announcing the scheme in the house.

“Development of Gaothan area needs to be properly planned, and hence the government has brought in this scheme after carefully examining all the legal aspects,” he added.

The scheme would regularise the houses apart from making room for basic amenities like roads. This would cater to the growing needs of the people and also raise their standard of living.  The cluster size would be 4000 sq. metres and all projects under the scheme would be cleared only after an impact assessment report, the CM informed the house.

NCP legislator Sandip Naik later told reporters that the government should verify if all project-affected people will get benefit of the decision. However, BJP MLA Manda Mhatre said the earlier Congress-NCP government did not take the decision in the last 15 years, but Chief Minister Fadnavis has taken this decision which will benefit the people.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is scheduled to go in for elections early next year. The scheme announced on Thursday can provide necessary political mileage to the BJP to be able to come to power in the local body where the party just managed to win a single seat in past 20 years.
