Mumbai : The Higher and Technical Education Ministry on Tuesday had organised a high-level conference in Mumbai with the objective to formulate a new education policy.
The Higher and Technical Education minister Vinod Tawde held the full-day conference with more than 300 experts from various streams such as information technology, mechanical, manufacturing, construction, hotel management, hospitability, etc. who were invited to participate in the conference and present their views and suggestions for the new policy for the state.
A report will be formed by the state government based on the inputs from the conference and will be submitted to the Central government to form a centralised education policy too. The Central government has invited the state governments with their reports for revision of the Central education policy and after all the states submit their individual reports compiled with the respective experts’ suggestions, the Central government will revise its education policy, said an IT expert who was a participant in the conference held on Monday.
The participant, founder of a top IT firm in Pune, also appreciated the government initiative. “Generally, the government forms education policies itself and they are implemented. But this time it has taken a more focussed approach and gone to the grassroots to take opinions and suggestions from people of different fields.
Many experts right from the taluka level to vice chancellor of different universities across the state and all vital education departments’ officials were present. All the points of view were taken into account, he added.
Through the conference, the government has taken initiative to focus on environment and skill development by combining education qualification and professional qualification. Many experts contributed their suggestions such as to integrate industry participation, incubation, research-related activities etc, into the current education policy. Others added their views to concentrate on the use of information and Communication Technology, massive open online courses or e-content across streams.
Tawde explained that Maharashtra being an educationally strong and important state, the report to be submitted by the state to the Centre holds more importance. He also confirmed that the new education policy will surely be more beneficial and build more confidence in the youth. In the new policy, not only academic and professional qualification but skill development will also get due importance, he added.
