Cabinet decides to add 1.75 cr beneficiaries in the scheme
Mumbai : The state cabinet, on Tuesday, decided to bring 1.75 crore beneficiaries under the food security net. They would be brought in the net after AADHAR seeding of their ration cards, a senior CMO official told FPJ.
The linking of AADHAR cards with the ration cards (seeding) is currently being done across the state. The cabinet decided that 1.77 crore eligible beneficiaries above poverty line (APL) would be given the benefits under national food security ordinance of 2013.
The state had been providing food grains at concessional rates to these beneficiaries. The practice would be discontinued when they would start getting the benefits under the food security after AADHAR seeding, the cabinet decided.
The cabinet also decided to give special scholarships to students preparing for the all India services through UPSC examinations, with the objective of increasing the quantum of successful students from the state in these examinations.
The government will give a stipend of Rs 10,000 per month, besides scholarship, to those preparing for the prelim, main exam and interview, the official said.
The government will spend Rs 23.46 crore for this initiative, which includes cost of training at reputed institutes in Delhi.
The cabinet meeting, held at Mantralaya, also decided to reintroduce the ordinance for appointment of experts on Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) all over the state.
This is being done as the legislation on this issue could not be passed in the winter session of state legislature in Nagpur last month, the official said.
