5-year-old dies in second mishap

Mumbai : Two accidents marred an otherwise serene weekend:  In the first incident, on Sunday, a speeding truck knocked down a five year old girl near Grant Road junction killing her on the spot. In the second incident on Saturday evening in Andheri, a senior citizen allegedly lost control of his car and ploughed into six persons and some vehicles.

The 74-year-old senior citizen has been arrested for ‘hit and run’. Identified as Shrichandra Girdhari, he was heading toward the Teli Galli when he lost his control over his car. Out of the six injured, 4 are from one family — a couple and their 2 sons.

According to police sources, the accused first hit the family and then rammed into two youngsters walking on the footpath. Shrichandra tried fleeing from the spot but was traced as he had left his car on the spot. The accused senior citizen has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC, said Dnyaneshwar Jawalkar, Senior Inspector, Andheri Police Station.

According to Subhana Naik, Assistant Police Inspector, DB Nagar Police, one Rajesh Yadav (22) has been arrested in the Grant Road mishap. He allegedly ran his truck over a 5 year

old girl who was crossing the road along with her aunt. The aunt sustained minor injuries while the girl, Divini Parekh, died on the spot. Both the deceased and the lady lived in the same building.

Yadav has been nabbed and a case has been registered against him under Sections 304 (A) [Causing death by negligence], 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC.
