Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) which has proposed the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan (Metro 5) wants the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) land in Kalyan for building Metro carshed. An official of MMRDA confirmed and stated that the proposal is still at a nascent stage.
"As per the draft plan, carshed has been proposed in exchange of bringing commercial development. Which means on ground floor the existing users will be given space, and as per the plan, on the first floor carshed will be constructed and above that commercial shops will be build. However, a final proposal on the same is yet to be made and approved," remarked the official.
MMRDA and APMC will share the profit margin. The official added, "The profit share between both is yet to be decided. But, the authority plans to share the profit until it recovers the cost of expenditure made on the development."
Shyam Choudhary, secretary of APMC Kalyan, said, they have asked MMRDA to hand over an absolute plan on the Metro carshed, only after which the decision will be made. Meanwhile, he also added that the members of APMC believe that the proposal of MMRDA to bring commercial development will benefit the autonomous body, which is currently suffering from financial crisis. The area has only railway connectivity and with Metro coming up there, parts of Bhiwandi, which has several small scale businesses and power loom factories will also get connected. Choudhary remarked, "Connectivity will eventually boost the business and generate employment opportunities." Currently the Kalyan APMC is set up on a 40-acre land parcel having ground plus one structure.
