As the temperatures in Mumbai are soaring every day, people try and stay indoors in the morning when the sun is at its peak. But to add to Mumbaikars woes, areas from Malabar Hill to Mahim witnessed power outage two hours on Sunday morning. The power outage happened after a Tata Power receiving station faced a technical snag.
According to the Hindustan Times, the outage affected areas were Mahalaxmi, Worli, Haji Ali, Malabar Hill, Cumballa Hill, Mumbai Central, Parel, Sewri, Byculla, Lalbaug, Matunga, Mahim, and Sion. The power outage began at 10.50 am and lasted for up to two hours in most of these areas. The power supply was restored in phases, starting with South Mumbai. “As the work on the snag was on, the power supply could be restored only in stages. This lead to a delay,” a BEST official told the leading daily.
Another BEST official told the leading that, “Power supply was first restored in the south Mumbai zone within 20 minutes, and in the remaining areas by 12.50pm.” Tata Power in a statement said, “At 10:50 am, there was an outage in Parel and adjoining areas due to a fault at Tata Power’s Parel station. But, power was restored within 20 minutes to one hour after necessary corrective action. We are investigating the reasons for the outage to prevent reoccurrence. We would like to reiterate that we are committed to providing reliable and 24X7 quality power to the city.”
