Mumbai : With the number of vehicles going up by the day, a large number of motorists are jostling for parking space in the twin-city. The gravity of the situation has apparently prodded the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) into action, with the Town Planning Wing having chalked out an elaborate parking management plan.
Spread across an area of 79.4 sq km, the MBMC’s final DP-1997, has tagged nine plots as parking zones. However, apart from two under-construction Multi-Level Parking (MLP) bays, all the others are yet to progress beyond the drawing board.
One located on the Kanakia Road (3,740 sq m) and the other at Poonam Garden (3,143 sq m), both the under-construction parking bays will have basement plus ground plus two upper floors with a parking capacity of around 95 and 70 four-wheelers respectively.“
“The parking zone near Shivar Garden on Kanakia Road is nearing completion and will soon be handed over to the civic body. Efforts were on to speed up the process of taking over other reserved plots and develop them for the much needed MLP complexes,” said an official from MBMC’s Town Planning department.
As both the parking zones fall under privately-owned properties, the MBMC has allowed the developer to design, build and transfer the parking complex on the reserved areas in lieu of Transfer Developing Rights (TDR) consent to develop the remaining property. Both the MLPs will not be automated and would be manually operated.
