Bhoomipujan of hostel complex on Tuesday

Bhayandar : In a bid to boost education prospects of tribal students and address their residential woes, the Tribal Welfare Department will set up a hostel complex in Mira Road. State Tribal Welfare Minister Madhakar Pichad will perform bhoomipujan for the construction of hostel complex on Tuesday.

Shiv Sena legislator Pratap Sarnaik had been following-up on the issue with the tribal welfare department for last couple of years. Following directions from the Upper Commissioner- Tribal Development Department (Thane), general body of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) had unanimously passed a resolution to this effect in December 2013.

The state-of-the-art hostel complex, having a capacity to house 5000 students, will be constructed on an area spreading across 4,000 square meter plot in Kaju Pada area of Kashimira.

The tribal welfare department has already made a budgetary allocation of Rs 20.40 crore for the MBMC to act as an executing agency to invite bids and supervise the project which has to be completed in time frame of 18 months.

“Education of tribal students is one of the primary objectives and this hostel complex will be of great help to them who want to pursue higher education in urban areas,” Sarnaik said.

“Apart from residential quarters for the warden, security personnel and other supporting hostel staff, proposal mooted by the government for the complex envisages in-house residential facilities for 1,000 students, computer lab, library, recreation hall, auditorium, playground, gymnasium and mess (dining- kitchen) facilities,” informed Additional Civic Chief Bharat Shitole.
