Mumbai : Commuters on both Central Railway (CR) as well as Western Railway (WR) had to suffer on Friday after a signal failure on both the railways affected train services.
On WR, a signal failure was reported at Andheri at 9:15 am due to which the train on the down slow line (towards Virar) were affected. According to the PRO of WR, a train was stuck on the down line for five minutes due to problem in the signalling system. After the problem was rectified, the trains were still running with a speed restriction. CNK David, the PRO of WR said, “The problem was resolved in
less than 10 minutes after which
the train operations became smoother.”
Similarly, on CR, a signal failure occurred near Mulund which blocked all the four lines; two fast tracks and two slow tracks for nearly 20 minutes. The problem occurred at 3:35 pm and was eventually rectified at 3:55 pm and all train operation were stopped until the signal was functional again which delayed the train services. PRO of CR, AK Singh said, “The problem was resolved at 3:55 pm but until it was rectified the trains were stopped. It caused the trains to bunch up and they were seen running with a delay of over 20 minutes.”
