Warned of bad times by tantrik, woman had planned the entire event after befriending the victim’s daughter
Mumbai : The man, who attacked a 55-year-old inside her house, has been arrested by the Charkop police. The accused with the help of his mother in-law planned the crime. According to the police, the mother in-law had planned the entire event after befriending the victim’s daughter and later calling his son in-law all the way from Jammu. The accused who have been arrested by the Charkop police are identified as Purshottam alias Sonu Sharma (35) and Mehbooba Sayyed (40).
According to the police, the accused Mehbooba, before committing the crime was in constant touch with a tantrik, who resides in Santacruz. The tantrik had told her that she would face hard times, very soon. Scared with what the tantrik said, she planned the entire scenario.
During the investigation, the police asked a telecommunication company for the Mebooba’s ‘Call Detail Records’ (CDR) reports, in which police found out that Mehbooba had spoken several time on a number, which was registered in the name of a man in Santacruz. The police then approached his residence and questioned him. The police came to know that the man is a tantrik and also works as a driver at a government transport service. After getting residential details of Mehbooba, they barged into her house in Laal Matti slums, located near Bandra Reclamation. After bringing her to the Charkop police station, police questioned her, after which she confessed to her crime.
In the investigation, it came to light that Mehbooba and her son in-law Sharma had cooked up the dacoity. Sharma hails from Jammu and had married Mehbooba’s daughter following a love affair. Sharma has several cases of pick-pocketing registered against him.
According to the police, on Wednesday, when the crime occurred, the duo took a rickshaw from Bandra till Charkop. During the journey, Mehbooba made several calls to confirm whether the victim’s daughter was at home or not. As Mehbooba was a friend of Reena Das and had even stayed at her house, she knew about the building environment and where the CCTV were installed.
Mehbooba took Sharma from the stairs to the seventh floor as there were CCTV installed in the lift. After reaching the seventh floor, she did a recce and then sent Sharma towards the flat. He then attacked Laxmi Das, after asking for a glass of water.
Laxmi somehow escaped from the clutches of Sharma and locked herself in the bathroom. The incident came to light when Reena’s son came home and saw Laxmi screaming for help from the bathroom. “Both the accused have been arrested for dacoity. Sharma has been additionally charged with attempt to murder,” said a police official from Charkop police station.
