Mumbai : NCP leaders, including party president Sharad Pawar, would tour the drought-affected regions of the state, such as Marathwada, from August 15, the party’s state unit chief, Sunil Tatkare, told journalists here on Friday. He also announced the newly appointed party office bearers in the state and district levels.
“Pawar will unveil a statue of the late Vilasrao Deshmukh, former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, in Latur on August 15 before starting his three-day tour of the region to take stock of the drought situation,” Tatkare said.
“The government did not heed the opposition’s demand for a complete loan waiver for farmers during the monsoon session. Cloud-seeding experiments, too, have failed and most of Marathwada is dry. Many other state party leaders, too, would tour different parts of the state to build the party’s connect with the farmers,” he added.
The state unit president also announced new office-bearers of the party units at various levels. NCP Youth wing head Umesh Patil would now be the party general secretary While MLC Niranjan Davkhare has been entrusted with the responsibility of the youth wing, he said.
He also indicated a possible alliance with the Congress in the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation elections later this year. “We will discuss the issue with them (Congress), and if they wish so, we may have an alliance,” Tatkare said.
