Mumbai : A 62-year-old widow from Powai was allegedly raped on Saturday by an acquaintance. The 42-year-old accused, Ashok Kumar, was arrested from Borivali, near his house, within a few hours.
According to the police, the victim said that Kumar came home on Saturday afternoon and the two had lunch together. Kumar then forced himself on the victim after which he fled. The victim told the police that she had no idea of his intentions.
The victim called her relatives who stay in the next building. She was hospitalised for bleeding and bruises on her right hand.
Ashok hid in Borivli but was traced through his mobile phone.
The victim has two grown up children. Her daughter is an air-hostess whereas her son stays at Mangalore and works with a private bank.
Shantilal Bhamre, assistant commissioner (Saki Naka division), said,” The offender took advantage of a deserted house to commit the crime.”
The accused has been arrested under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and will be produced in Andheri court on Monday.
Recently, a Spanish musician was raped at her residence in Bandra. But in this case, the assailant broke into her flat with the intention of decamping with valuables. The victim had even managed to escape the assailant’s clutches and run into the passage of the house, but she was dragged back into the flat and raped.
