Mumbai: The youth wing of Shiv Sena led by Aditya Thackeray on Saturday said that they will not campaign for BJP candidate from North Central Mumbai, Poonam Mahajan, in the Lok Sabha polls. However, Poonam, daughter of Pramod Mahajan, said: “I have no information about this. My conversations with Aditya have been very normal. I have started my campaign. I have got a lot of love and blessings from the locals here. The promises I made in 2014 have been fulfilled by 2019.”
Shiv Sena Yuva Sena members have alleged that Mahajan does not respect the senior leaders of the party and in fact, has not put her late father Pramod Mahajan’s picture in the posters that are being used for campaigning. Yuva Sena members Rahul Kanal and Akshay Panvelkar, told ANI, “When one is in an alliance, they should follow the protocol. We are angry because our leaders have not been respected.” “Our leaders are like our God. As per our protocol, there should be a photo of our leaders which is not there. So, if that is not being followed, then we too will not take part in your campaigns and rallies.”
The Mumbai North Central Lok
Sabha, which covers areas like Bandra and Kurla in the metropolis, will once again see the BJP’s Poonam Mahajan pitted against Congress’ Priya Dutt. In the 2014 polls, Majahan had defeated Priya Dutt, a two-time MP, by a margin of 1.8 lakh votes. Dutt is the daughter of cinestar-turned-politician Sunil Dutt who represented the constituency for five terms while Mahajan is the daughter of late Pramod Mahajan, one of the BJP’s foremost strategists as well as a former MP from the city’s North East seat.
