Bhayandar : The Sword of Damocles appears to be hanging over the NCP-led governance in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), as former BJP corporator, Sanjay Pange, has sought the dissolution of the General Body House alleging massive irregularities in the in the multi-crore contract awarded to a private agency for providing security personnel to guard the various administrative offices and properties owned by the civic body across the twin-city.
Pange has alleged that the General Body House gave its nod to an illegal resolution to award a contract to Sainik Securities Private Limited, in December 2012. After getting no response to his complaints filed with the State government authorities, Pange moved the judiciary against the resolution which according to him was illegal as the MBMC had directly awarded the contract without inviting competitive bids from other aspiring agencies.
Pange has sought action under Sections 451 and 452 of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation (BPMC) Act, 1949 for scrapping the resolution and dissolving the House respectively. “In response to the petition, a divisional bench of the Mumbai High Court has directed the State Chief Secretary to investigate the matter and take an appropriate decision against the alleged irregularities within three months.” Pange said.
Even as officials at MBMC’s legal department confirmed about the petition filed by Pange in this context against the civic body, they claimed ignorance about any such directions passed by the judiciary.
