New Delhi: Upset over various ministries urging MPs to spend money from MPLAD funds on the government’s flagship projects, NCP member Supriya Sule today suggested that the Centre should scrap the scheme. “We have to provide money for Adarsh Gram Yojana, toilets (under Swachh Bharat)… for every flagship programme of the government. They can very much scrap it,” she said during a debate in Lok Sabha on the Demands for Grants for the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.

The MPLAD fund of Rs 5 crore annually envisages that members would use the money on development projects and amenities in their constituency. Sule said one ministry or other keeps writing regularly to MPs, urging them to allocate money from the MPLAD fund on their projects and noted that Skill Development Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy made a similar request today.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had urged members in the House yesterday that they should contribute from their MPLAD fund on his ministry projects in their constituency.
