“Plying passengers without appropriate certification is not only flouting safety norms but also risking the life of the passengers who opt for these services.”

Mumbai : In a first, Regional Traffic Officer (RTO) Tardeo detained nine cabs belonging to ‘TABcab’ that were found plying in the island city without an appropriate fitness certificate.

The fitness certificates of these cabs were found by officials to have expired back in 2014.

Apart from the nine cabs, 19 water tankers without permits were also detained in the drive conducted in the weekend.

The tankers belonged to different owners, and were supplying water to various parts of the city in the wake of the water cut in the city.

Deputy RTO, Subhas Pedamkar (Tardeo), said: “We have detained these vehicles and the process of prosecuting them is under way.”

The officials also suspect more such vehicles to be ferrying passengers without appropriate certificates. They are planning on conducting a massive drive against such vehicles soon.

“Running vehicles and plying passengers without appropriate certification is not only flouting safety norms but also risking the life of the passengers who opt for these services,” said an official.
