Rs 440 crore approved for homes, admin building for cops police

Mumbai :  The Maharashtra State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation on Friday approved spending of Rs440 crore for the construction of housing complexes across the state.

The MSPHC also approved the construction of a township in Navi Mumbai on a 79-acre plot which will have around 12,000 houses for the police. The Corporation purchased the plot for Rs 45 crore and has taken its possession.

According to KP Bakshi, Additional Chief Secretary and Chairman of MSPHC, the township is part of the affordable housing project for the police.

He said the 750 sq.ft. houses will be available to police officials at affordable prices of Rs 12-13 lakh. The township will have a hospital, CBD School, a playground, swimming pool and other modern amenities which private builders offer.

This is the biggest project undertaken by MSPHC and a special committee to supervise this project has been constituted.

Apart from a go-ahead for a township at Navi Mumbai, the MSPHC also gave a nod to spending of Rs 310 crore for construction of 902 houses in Lakadgunj, in Nagpur.

The Corporation will also construct a new Nagpur Police Commissionerate and a police administrative building at a cost of Rs 36 crore and 12 crore respectively. The Corporation also approved construction of a commissionarate at Akola.

Two buildings for the Commandos of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) in Pune also got a go-ahead and Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for the project.

Flats for 96 women police official and 128 men of the Ahmednagar police has been approved at a cost of Rs 12 crore.

Meanwhile, police station at Balharshah, Chandrapur District and a training centre at Akola and Jalna will be constructed.
