Mumbai : In a move to facilitate easy movement of traffic on the eve of Ganesh immersion, Railway Protection Force (RPF) on the Western Railway (WR) will be deploying additional men at the level crossing gates for regulating road traffic and facilitating smooth movement of trains.
A total of four crossing have been identified as crucial location across the stretch of CR which will be better manned. The closing of the level crossing had become difficult during the Ganesh immersion on the fifth day of the festival due to heavy rush of devotees.
An official explained that on the fifth day, there was one procession followed with another and made it difficult for the railway people to close these LC gates. Following this episode it was decided that the security at these gates will be enhanced to control the crowd.
Senior Divisional Security Commissioner of CR, Sachin Bhalode said, “I received calls on the fifth day as there were problems in controlling the crowd at these gates. After this we concluded that more constables will be required to be deployed. The Government Railway Police (GRP) and RPF will both work together on it.”
The constables deployed at these level crossing gates will be in touch with the control room. After getting information of the on-coming trains the LC gates will be closed in time to ensure train movement. The level crossing gates which will be manned include Chunbhatti, Kurla, Vikroli and Thakurli. The one at Chunabhatti is the most sensitive one informed Bhalode.
