Robbers who used to prey on bank customers

Mumbai : Four accused have been arrested by the Malad police, who used to commit robberies after throwing fake crow droppings on the victim, who used to come out of the bank after withdrawing the cash. All the accused are relatives of each other and have around 30 cases registered against them in the areas between Andheri and Nalasopara.

The accused were nabbed from Sainath subway, when they tried to attempt a robbery. The accused have been identified as Srinivasan Kaundar (35), Ravi Boher (25), MJR Telgu (20) and Shankar Telgu (19), and all are relatives of each other.

In their modus-operandi, one of the accused used to be inside the bank to keep a watch on the visitors. The moment he used to get the knowledge about the person withdrawing huge amount of cash, he used to alert the others standing out.

After the victim used to come out, the accused then used to throw a mixture of wet biscuit and garbage at him, which looked like a crow droppings. According to the police, it stink a lot and the victim gets distracted. During that very moment one of the accused used to flee away after snatching the bag.

The accused were arrested on July 17, and have been given police custody till July 23 and police till yet, have recovered Rs 140000 from them. “The group is very sharp in lifting bags. This is a unique modus operandi. They always commit crime outside the banks, where they have the knowledge of who is carrying how much cash,” said a police officer.
