MLA Vilas Tare threatens to agitate if the Chief Minister doesn’t offer immediate relief package to flood-hit villagers in Vasai east coast and Palghar
Vasai : MLA Vilas Tare who represents Boisar Assembly constituency, on Thursday, threatened to agitate in case the flood-affected villagers from Vasai east coast and Palghar district did not get an immediate relief from the Chief Minister.
He was inspecting the damage caused by the incessant rain that lashed entire Thane district in last four days. He inspected the road in Bhatane village that was washed away due to heavy rain. Even the Tansa bridge, that connects Bhatane village with Usgaon, was under water for more than five days. This has caused life-threatening inconvenience to the people of Bhatane village who have been cut-off from other areas. More than 10, 000 people are awaiting immediate repairs as no four-wheeler can enter their village.
Tare said, “Because of consistent rains, rivers like Surya and Vaitarna in Palghar district and Tansa river near Virar have overflowed and caused floods. I will instruct both the Tehsildars of Palghar and Vasai to access the damage caused by these floods and offer compensation. I will also request the CM to intervene and offer immediate relief package to these flood-affected villagers. If there is a delay in approval of this relief then I will agitate”.
A local resident Sunil Khot said, “We have been facing this for the last 15 years. This road was the last hope as bridge connecting Bhatane and Usgaon is under water. Children will be forced to skip school and daily wage workers have no option but to stay unemployed till the situation improves. In case of any emergency we cannot ferry anyone as an ambulance cannot enter our village. Last year, there was a similar situation when we lost two villagers to snake-bite.”
No contractor finalised: No contractor has been yet to be finalised for constructing a new road with 2.65 crores already been approved for this road. The tenders had been floated but no contractor came forward and hence the tenders had to be cancelled.
