Will instal CCTV cameras in ladies coaches on both Central and Western Railway suburban trains
Mumbai : Soon ladies compartments in suburban locals on both Central as well as Western Railways will be equipped with close circuit television (CCTV) cameras. The Western Railway (WR) has managed to get satisfactory images in moving trains after nine months of testing. 24 cameras will be installed in three trains in the coming months after two CCTV cameras yield were found satisfactory.
The images procured in the recent testing have produced images that are clear and do not get pixilated when zoomed. The official also managed to transmit the images to the control room where they were recorded.
Following the success of the trials on WR, the CR will also be installing the same in locals. CR, CPRO Atul Rane said, “There were tests going on which were not materialising but as the results have been good we will also think on it.”
Previously the images were blurred and pixilated when zoomed, however changing the position of the cameras in the trains have produced satisfactory results. An official from WR said, “Not only capturing images of good quality was an issue but also transmitting them to a room where they could be recorded was proving to be difficult.”
However, the images extracted in the recent trial runs are satisfactorily clear and of good quality, added WR CPRO, Sharad Chandrayan.
At present the trial runs were conducted with just two CCTV cameras installed in one coach but in the coming months the same will be done with three separate train coaches. Chandrayan added, “About 24 CCTV cameras will be installed in three trains. A tender will be floated following which after three months we will be installing cameras in all the coaches of the 80 racks with the Western Railway.”
The position of the CCTV cameras was changed and placed in the gangway between the partition following which they were able to produce satisfactory images. The officials are counting on the CCTV to be helpful tools as there have several cases cracked using with them.
Central Railway authorities will also be toeing the line and installing CCTV cameras in the locals running on the Central Railway.
