Bhayandar : In a much needed respite for the water starved residents of Mira-Bhayahndar authorities have announced a partial roll back in existing water cuts.

Owing to inadequate rainfall this year, the State Irrigation Department, in order to utilize the limited quantum of water till July- 2016, had directed the service providers to observe weekly shutdowns following which the MIDC and STEM authorities swung into contingency mode. Subsequently, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) imposed 30 per cent water cuts restricting frequency of supply to once in 80 to 90 hours. Taps running dry due to twice-a-week shut downs had thrown local populace in a tizzy. A delegation led by legislator Narendra Mehta and civic chief Achyut Hange met the state water resources minister Girish Mahajan and apprised him of the acute water crisis and the drastic impact of water cuts.
