Firm loses data pertaining to bills
Mumbai : This month, the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) will send its users electricity bills based on an average of the units consumed. The undertaking has been forced to do this since it has lost all its data pertaining to bills.
BEST officials have confirmed that a cyber team is trying to retrieve the relevant data. Once the team succeeds in retrieving the lost information, they will calculate the usage again, and accordingly add or subtract the amount in the subsequent bill.
Kedar Hombalkar, a BEST member, said that this is not the first time that such a goof-up has taken place. “It’s the second time in less than six months that BEST has lost its billing data,” he said.
He alleged that the there is a severe dearth of computer literate employees in the BEST payroll, and that the existing staff isn’t trained properly in handling the system concerned.
