Underworld don and former gangster Arun Gawli, who is serving jail term for the murder of Shiv Sena municipal councillor Kamlakar Jamsandekar, topped a paper based on Mahatma Gandhi. Gawli scored 74 out of 80. The exam was based on the ideals and concepts given by MK Gandhi.
As per reports, close to 160 prisoners appeared for the examination in Nagpur central jail. The examination is conducted jointly by Sahyog Trust and Sarvodaya Ashram.
Gawli is famously known as ‘Daddy’ in the Dagdi Chawl in Byculla. He was the founder of Akhil Bharatiya Sena and was convicted in 2012 for the murder of Jamsandekar and was awarded life imprisonment by a Mumbai sessions court. His daughter Geeta has served as corporator from Byculla in the past.
Some time back, a Bollywood film was made on his life and time in which the role of Gawli was played by Arjun Rampal. The film was titled as ‘Daddy’
