Bhayandar : In a mysterious firing incident in broad daylight, a bike-borne youth was shot at by unknown assailants at Rai village near Bhayandar on Monday afternoon.
The youth, who has been identified as Prakash Gupta (27), escaped with bullet injuries on his neck and has been admitted to Kasturi Hospital in Bhayandar (west).
According to the police, the incident was reported to occur near a bus stop on the Uttan-Gorai road in Rai village in Bhayandar at about 12:30 pm. A resident of Jesal Park area in Bhayandar (east), Gupta, who operates as a small-time real estate agent, was headed towards Gorai with his friend when he reportedly collapsed and fell off from his bike.
Presuming it to be an accident, locals rushed Gupta to hospital. However, on-duty doctors found a bullet injury on him.
“Gupta was brought here as a victim of road mishap. However, we found an entry wound on the neck apparently caused due to a gunshot. We immediately started treatment and informed the police,” confirmed Dr Rajeev Agarwal.
A police team immediately rushed to the spot of the crime and managed to retrieve an empty bullet shell from the scene of crime. Although it is believed that the assailants fled after firing at Gupta from a Maruti Omni van, the investigators are yet to verify the claims.
A case has been registered in this context at the Bhayandar police station.
