Mumbai: Condemning the demand of Shiv Sena to ban burqas, Republican Party of India (RPI-A) chief and union minister for social justice Ramdas Athawale said every Muslim woman who wears burqa is not a terrorist. Athawale further said it is their tradition and women have the right to wear it and added that there should not be any ban on burqa in the country. In a statement,
All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi slammed the Sena terming it as ‘ignorant’. He said the Supreme Court, in its judgment on privacy, has clearly laid down that the choice is now a fundamental right. Terming it as a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), he urged the EC to take note of it and termed it as an attempt at polarisation.
