Pune: Maharashtra has a legacy of many stalwart politicians, whose children and grandchildren are seen vying for tickets. The latest entrant to this category is Vishal Patil, the grandson of the late Vasantdada Patil, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra. It is strongly speculated that Vishal Sangli will be the candidate of the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) from Sangli for the Lok Sabha elections. Reportedly, he is likely to file his nomination on April 2. Raju Shetti, the chief of the SSS is expected to make this announcement at the press conference.
For the last 60 years, the Vasantdada Patil clan has singlehandedly held sway over this constituency. The Congress has left the seat for the SSS, which is why Vishal had earlier said he would contest from the Congress or as an Independent. However, on Friday, senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan and Shetti had late-night discussions where it was decided Vishal would contest the elections on the SSS ticket. With his nomination, finally the Congress party has been able to resolve the deadlock over the Sangli seat.
