Mumbai : Mumbai, Thane and the western parts of Maharashtra have been receiving heavy rains since Monday. Day-to-day life in Palghar, Dahanu, Vasai was brought to a standstill due to the incessant downpour. All over Maharashtra, five people, including two from Palghar, died while 11 received injuries due to the rains.

Traffic at Virar, Vasai, Sun-City and Gaas Road areas was disrupted due to heavy downpour and resultant flooding. A bridge on Shirsath-Vajreshwari road was flooded blocking traffic on Shirsath-Bhiwandi road. Jawhar area received maximum 272 mm rains while Nandurbar district recorded 240 mm rainfall. People living on the banks of rivers in Nandurbar district have been alerted regarding heavy rainfall in next 24 hours. Alert was also sounded for people in lake areas like Tansa and Waitarna in Mumbai. Floods in Surya and Waitarna rivers cut off contact with 35 villages. On the Machwan-Dahanu road, a bridge got completely submerged resulting into halt in transport.

The level of water in Koyna dam has been recorded at 52.15 meter.
