Mumbai : Commuters on Central Railway (CR) had a tough time commuting on Sunday after train services were badly affected with two rail fractures — one in the morning and the other in the evening — along with a mega block.
The train services were affected in the morning hours before the block, after a rail fracture was reported between Asangao and Atgaon at 9:30 am. This was followed by no trains running due to the mega block between Thane and Kalyan until 3 pm.
Finally, when the train services resumed in the evening, the commuters were seen walking on tracks as a rail fracture was reported at 6:20 pm near Mahim railway station on the harbour line.
It was a Sunday and for devotees on their way to South Central Mumbai for the Ganesh festival, commuting became very difficult. There were no trains available in the evening on the harbour line and devotees were seen walking on the tracks at the Mahim and Kings Circle stations.
Nitin Shirke, who was heading to CST from Kurla, said, “There were no trains available and there were no announcements made either. There should be no block taken during the festive season, but there were several failures.”
