Mumbai : Qasim Ansari alias Qasim Bengali, a gang rape accused, was a regular police informer, claims his mother Chand Bibi. Qasim (19) who resides in a shanty next to a petrol pump in Kalapani area of Madanpura was arrested in 2012 in a case of robbery, however he was released on bail a year ago. “Since then Qasim was in touch with one of the constables of Agripada and constable Mujawar who was recently shifted to crime branch from Agripada,” said Chand Bibi.
Chand was unable to remember the name of the constable of Agripada but she said that Mujawar use to come to their shanty most of the time searching for Qasim since the last one year.
“My son never informed me about the presence of the police officers but one day he told me that constable Mujawar was looking for some criminals in the area. I warned my son to not get into trouble by helping the police”, said Chand.
“On Thursday night Qasim came to home at 9 pm and after having dinner he was watching television till 11 pm, when he suddenly ran from home after constable Mujawar called on his cell phone where he asked him to meet,” added Chand.
Qasim, was arrested from the terrace of Nair Hospital in central Mumbai in the early hours of Sunday. Police realised he was an informer while running background checks on him before and after the arrest.
