Mumbai : In addition to skill and technical know-how to achieve the aims and ambitions of your life, imagine if you could read others’ minds too. Isn’t that a power we wish we had at some juncture in our lives? The art of reading a person’s mind requires unique and extraordinary techniques and it’s one such technique that the Mumbai Winners Club sought to promote at a recently-held workshop in the city.

The Club had had organised  a workshop in Matunga on ‘Mind reading through Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP)’ with a practical presentation by Prof Basu Mali. The workshop encouraged the participants, comprising business-oriented people and corporate employees from sales and marketing fields, to learn the brain-to-brain communication through eye movements and gestures helping in more productive communication.

“NLP also plays a significant role in personality development by aiding better communication but very few people in India are aware about this technique. It’s a positive psycho-therapy. NLP is incorporated with different therapies, depending on which field a person wants to concentrate on,” said Swapna Nadgauda, a psychologist in Navi Mumbai. She added that NLP is being provided commercially in India in recent times and the therapy is expensive.

Dr Bina Sawant, a practicing psychologist from JJ Hospital said: “NLP is increasingly being practised in India and the therapy helps cope with stress. Although many children learn NLP for coping with exam fear, nowadays more and more professionals are becoming aware and attracted to its benefits. For marketing and sales professionals dealing with target-based stressful jobs, it is very useful. “

“As NLP is based on cognitive visualisation, there are techniques such as locking systems which helps the candidate to improve his/her verbalisation and handle queries while selling. It will eventually improve his/her self confidence,” she said.

Unfortunately, less than 5% of people in India are aware about therapies like NLP, she said. If there is more awareness, more people will opt for the therapy and see cognitive change. NLP is excellent to handle fear, the doctor added.

NLP has different levels. The basic level costs around Rs 7,000 to Rs 8,000 Rs for two days’ session.
